In the event “Water for Food Safety and Rural Development in the Americas: current issues and opportunities” organized by IICA and IDB, were presented the case studies from Swiss Cooperation SDC and the Global Water Program; El Agua Nos Une – SuizAgua: reducing impacts on water and managing risks and the Investment on ecosystem services scheme: MiParamo. This session was part of the regional process of the World Water Forum Brasilia 2018.
MiParamo is a result – based finance mechanism to motivate local families’ involvement in high Andean wetland conservation, in Norte de Santander, Colombia by improving livelihoods. MiParamo is under development and it is anchored in the Water Fund platform (Alianza BioCuenca), supported by regional authorities, the Swiss Cooperation (SDC), Good Stuff International, GIZ and private sector.
El Agua Nos Une was presented as a report of a case study of collaborative methodologies for water conservation, including private sector and agricultural industries, and in some areas, rural communities. In the event, there was a good perception on the work related to coffee production environmental footprint.
The main objective of the session coordinated by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will, was to discuss strategies to boost water security in rural areas and in the food production system.
